Welcome to Operation Chess:
Students Supporting Soldiers
What do we do?

Operation Chess is a nonprofit organization created by a Wisconsin
middle school student to send chess sets to American troops stationed
overseas.
What's New?

Operation Chess was incorporated under the laws of
Wisconsin in M
arch 2008.  In April 2008, Operation Chess began shipping chess set to American troops stationed overseas.  To date, it has shipped 68 chess sets to soldiers, sailors, and marines in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, as well as to injured troops being treated at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

In May 2008, Operation Chess received its first correspondence from overseas troops who had received chess sets from Operation Chess.  It is wonderful to get those letters and to hear that the troops enjoy playing chess.  We especially liked hearing from a Sergeant in Iraq who wrote, "Chess is the only game I allow my soldiers to play at work.  I feel it keeps their minds sharp."

In addition to sending chess sets, Operation Chess has teamed up with Operation Beanie Baby, a local community service project, to send Beanie Babies in each package it sends.  American troops like to give Beanie Babies to local children.

How can you help?

For every $25 raised, Operation Chess can send two chess sets to
soldiers who have requested chess sets.  Donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated.  Additionally, Operation Chess invites donors to include a letter to the troops that will be sent with the chess sets.  Finally, if you know of any member of the Armed Forces stationed overseas that would like a chess set, please let Operation Chess know.
