About Operation Chess
Operation Chess was founded by a Wisconsin middle school student in
March 2008. It began shipping chess sets to American soldiers based overseas in April 2008.
The student who founded Operation Chess had played in scholastic chess tournaments for several years. He had benefited greatly from his chess experiences. He had learned many lessons from the game of chess, he had made new friends, and he had traveled to new cities to compete in various tournaments.
He wanted to find a way to use his love of chess to help others. He
knew that there were many American soldiers stationed overseas who
were making great sacrifices to protect his freedom. He decided to
create Operation Chess so that he would be able to send chess sets to
American soldiers who have expressed a desire to receive chess sets.
