Good day, let me start off by telling how much we have appreciated the
set of chess games that you sent to us. I had no clue how to play and I
am learning now and it is a very strategic game. My apologies for not
responding sooner and let you know that we received them. We work
everyday to include weekends and sometimes very long hours. When Sunday
comes we only rate half of day off and we use it to take care of
personal matters. I read your letter and I can tell you are a very smart
person to challenge others on chess tournaments. I am sure you have won
most of them. Well let me tell you that your games have put a big smile
on our faces. It is great to know that good citizens like you care
about us and you don't even know us in person. We have received quite a
few care packages and it makes us feel that we are no forgotten. Some
of the Marines also have received care packages from their loved ones
every once in a while too. Well as you have seen in the news some
troops are going back soon. Some of my Marines are heading back in
advanced party. The rest of the BN will be heading out at a later date
and I will be staying back along with other two Marines. We decided to
extend our time here and there is no telling when we will go back home.
We are guessing when the base is given back to the locals but no set
date has been given yet. As of right now we are retrograding and many
Marines from other sites are coming back here to Al Taqaddum Iraq. The
base is big but we have only some much to go to. Our daily routine is
work and work to accomplish the mission. We have the chow hall and a
good gym, one room of cardio and another of lifting. Outside we have a
running track but we can only use it either very early in the morning or
very late evening since is extremely hot during the day. It reaches
over 112 degrees and in the past it has reached the 140's so yes it gets
very hot. Well just wanted to give a little brief because I can go on
and on and I might not finish telling you all about Iraq. I want to
thank you once again on behalf of all the Platoon and continue to play
on tournaments. Do all what you put your mind into and more than
anything always shoot to the sky. I really can't ding the right words
to say thank you for making our day.
